Bending wood

This is a part of new technology,
I think this was firstly introduced by Ray eames (bending plywood)
However this designs are not done by them
This is Aswoon's Wave line of Wood Furniture
I know that materials are not supposed to be forced and it has to show its qualities.
Yet in these design, the materials are very forced (wood to be bent) however it reveals the qualities and the strong look in wood. Splendid and remarkable
Below is a room divider and a table

Room Divider Screen from Farm 21 - the 'Green' Folding Screen

Wooww :x
hey hey hey that's so nice
What it lacks is just they are not from paper hahaha
but still, a good resource and new technology

a Tri-Part Screen made from panels of laminated rye straw in resin and acrylic

Room Divider

This is a website where I found many room dividers. It's not from paper but can let me have some feelings about room divider. I'll try to learn what's important in a room divider.

The first impression I get is that it needs to be foldable to saves space for transportation (I guess) or for storage. Storage and transportation becomes important point.

Thinking on Concept 2

I wake up today
I am still searching for what is gifted from paper...
I went back to the point where I was lost.

I know that shoji screen is already a design and it is made to tear cause of the earthquake (Rina told me)
And Shigeru Ban has already made a room divider from paper as well.
But, a room divider would be a great piece of concept.

Many of the students living in Sydney (especially in the city) has their apartment with a room divider.
It's used to let someone be able to live in the living room with some privacy
(and save up renting fee)
Even without anyone living in the living room,
most of the user use it for dividing the living room into spaces. Dining space, TV watching space, playing space and so on.

From my point of view. Since it is taking up space in the living room. It has to be a real piece of beauty, a user would not be bothered having something in their living room that looks ugly that makes a living space to be in a depressed situation.
So here's my points:
It does not need to be strong
It needs to be portable (in case of he's moving or needs to get out)
It (may) be lightweight
It must have a beauty in the product :):)
I'll come back once I get the idea

Thinking on Concepts

I know that design is different from art.
However, I believe that art gave birth to design.
So whichever way I have to go,
I want to put artistic effort in every design
as far as possible...
To manufacture artistic felt design

Last week, my concepts were not accepted.
After hearing the explanations,
even myself would not accept my own design
it does not have any "strong characteristics" at all
and it even crashes the material's performance...

So, I have a thought, now
my paper design would be something that is lightweight,
does not need strength but beauty..
Wonder wad can it be :] :]

Peter Callesen

This review has actually been done by Rina
I'm not sure when but I'm very sure it has been done before...
I found it accidentally on the net and once again, it takes me to the point where I am amazed with his works :):) If you would like to explore more, please visit him on this site
coz I cant upload every single of his splendid works

Richard Sweeney

It's him again, Richard Sweeney, I've talked about him before but when I researched, I found more of his work. I cant just not be amazedddd... it's extraordinary
And it's paper!!!
Rina told me last week that I'm supposed to celebrate paper, to show off paper, how rich they are to be used in design and how beautiful they are..
And, I really think that Richard is gorgeous in making use of paper's characteristics to the maximum. And it allows them to be mesmerizing in the same time.. even if it's just cut and fold.
Just one thing I'm still curious about
I'll find out how things like that can be manufactured

Interesting paper folding sites

F U N
This is a site that has so many cute paper folding.
And here are some examples.
I know that it is not really related to this project but since i'm so attached to it,
lemme post it ;p
And they have how-to-dos and templates in their site

Recycled Art

This website
conveys about a Japanese architect named Shigeru Ban.
He uses everyday's material, paper, to build housings and furniture.
It's not only stable, but beautiful as well. He uses paper's ability to the maximum and force it in a way it could be used for another thing more than just writing stuff or packaging.
Here are some of his works:

His paper architecture is really appreciated especially after 1995 earthquake in Kobe, Japan. It's really convinient to give shelters to the victims of the earthquake in large quantity.

Great paper art piece

This is an art work done by Richard Sweeney
It is a computer generated form which were cut using a vinyl-cutting machine
I feel like the shape works great with the lighting. It's an amazing one

Greeting Card

It's only a card, a greeting, to say happy birthday to one's girlfriend
It's made out of paper, only to have something printed on it and have it cut nicely
Yet, it has some delicious romantic feeling when being seen...
It has personality and use. It's stiff and can be used as decoration.

How do you think a plain paper when formed can be as beautiful as it can be?
Just by adding a few touch and colours..
The shape does not need to be perfect but matches..

Paper

Paper has been renowned for being the materials for packaging,
whether it is a food or beverages product or even a real thing, like a gift box. Other use would be writing or printing on it. To make a note.

"The word ‘paper’ derives from the word ‘papyrus’ and is a substance composed of fibres interlaced into a compact web, which can then be macerated into pulp, dried and pressed. Today, paper includes a wide range of products with very different applications: communication, cultural, educational, artistic, hygienic, sanitary, as well as for storage and transportation of all kinds of goods. It's almost impossible to imagine a life without paper." (2008, paperonline)

"The earliest recorded forms of paper were in use in Egypt in around 3500 BC, made from the papyrus plant. True paper is believed to have originated in China in approximately the 2nd century AD, although there is some evidence for it being used before this date. The use of paper spread from China through the Islamic world, and entered production in Europe in the early 12th century. Mechanized production of paper in the early 19th century caused significant cultural changes worldwide, allowing for relatively cheap exchange of information in the form of letters, newspapers and books for the first time." (2008, wikipedia)

Shoji

Shoji Japanese sliding door is made out of wood and rice paper
As it can be seen, just by looking, you can feel the tradition, the word "Japanese" written inside the design. I think it is a really good example for uses of paper. Despite being innovative, it reflects tradition. In the link provided on the right o the page, it is a Shoji producer in Olalla, WA, USA.

Materials for ideal Shoji Screen for this company would be as follows:

Wood frame:
Quarter-sawn American Basswood (Linden), finished with a clear catalyzed lacquer for ease in cleaning and durability.

Grid Pattern:
Port Orford Cedar, planed smooth and left natural.
Both Basswood and Port Orford Cedar are a creamy blond/brown and work wonderfully together.

Papers:
*WARLON
-Warlon Paper, with PVC resin laminated on each side, is durable and washable and have only small amount of paper fiber.
-Warlon Acrylic looks like Warlon paper. Its thickness is 2mm and is resistant to water and weather. It can be used to replace glass.
-Haru Warlon looks like Warlon paper. It is a sticky-backed acrylic film for application to glass. It will make your windows look like shoji paper.

*Laminated Papers ( laminated onto both sides of a styrene core)
-White Unryu, a very soft-looking paper with long curly paper fibers.
-Amber Kinwashi is a Japanese paper with short clipped fibers.

Present pressence is a pre-sent present...

"Present presence is a pre-sent present.."
If you would only treasure it

If we ever asked God,
Why is my life like this? Why is my life like that?
Why why why...
there are too many questions to cope up..

Why wont you just stand back, look through
EVERYTHING you have NOW

If you think "I am still too young"
it's not like you will have a never-ending time to share with your friends, family, and people that you love..
Ten years will fly in just memories
We just don't know when will this end
nor..
when did this start
If you would only regret why did not realize it it would just be a remorse

Remember..
each seconds that you have in your life
is a gifted gift by God
Make sure you treasure it, share it with your beloved people..

Cause the word tomorrow is an uncertainty

(:|) (:]) (:>) (:)) (:D) (:O)
*Am I poetic inuff? =p)
